Art Legacy Review in Lisbon: Michelin Key Boutique Hotel
When you are looking for a Michelin Key hotel, you expect luxury, but what you often don’t realize is that “luxury” doesn’t always guarantee a personalized experience. On occasions, it can feel cold or purely transactional.

In this Art Legacy review in Lisbon, Portugal, we’re sharing how this hotel solves that problem by providing a level of service that truly goes beyond expectations.
From a “hidden” guided tour not mentioned on their website to the thoughtful breakfast options, we’re giving you the insider details from our recent stay to help you decide if this is your perfect Lisbon stay.

Where is The Art Legacy Hotel Located?
The Art Legacy hotel is located less than a 5-minute walk from the Baixa-Chiado metro station and the famous Santa Justa Lift on Rua Aurea, making it incredibly easy to navigate the city from this location.
Full Disclosure: This stay was a collaboration where we received a room upgrade to a balcony room. However, this post reflects my genuine experience, and I was not asked to review my article before posting, so you get my honest perspective.
The Art Legacy Hotel Architecture and Design
When you step inside, you’ll be welcomed with the beautiful open-concept lobby space, designed by Architect Luís Rebelo de Andrade (who also redesigned the facade), which feels both warm and sophisticated. The furniture, carpets, and tapestry are all from the Dutch brand Moooi.

The walls and ceilings are painted a deep, dark green, which flows perfectly into the bar and dining area. In the Aurea Restaurant (which we’ll cover below), you’ll find dark red chairs and the iconic Moooi horse lamp. Even the elevator is part of the design story, with a unique tapestry of jungle plants and animals covering the interior walls.

The designer’s creativity is everywhere; when you get to the upper levels, the hallways use a color-coding system of red, blue, and green. The design is so impressive that you’ll likely feel the urge to visit other floors just to see the different colors!
What are the Room Options?
Before we talk about our specific room, we want to let you know that the hotel offers several room types to fit different space setups and budgets:
- Art Cosy Room (Double/Twin)
- Art Essential Room (Double/Twin)
- Art Charming Room
- Art Balcony Room (The room we stayed in)
- Four Suite Types: Legacy Suite, Legacy Corner Suite, Legacy Terrace Suite, and the Art Legacy Royal Suite.
Note: Our room lacked certain furniture that we would have appreciated (we’ll cover this below). If you need specific amenities, such as a city view, a dedicated workspace, or separate beds, we recommend checking the different room layouts here before booking.
Booking Tip: How to Get the Best Price?
We found that booking directly through the official hotel website offered significantly better offers than third-party sites. We recommend checking offers on the Art Legacy’s official website first, then comparing them to Booking.com, as they typically offer member deals.
A Personalized Welcome Experience
The service stood out from the very first moment. We reached the property early, and the staff secured our luggage immediately so we could explore the city. When we returned for our official check-in, we were greeted with a refreshing welcome mocktail made of mint, strawberry, and lemon.

The personalization was incredible, following the welcoming mocktail; we were escorted to our room, where the friendly staff explained the hotel’s unique amenities and architecture. By the time we walked into our room, our luggage was already waiting for us.
Note: During our stay, we even spent time in the lobby observing the staff dynamic with other guests; everyone received the same high level of attention. It wasn’t just “special treatment” for us. The staff truly makes everyone feel like the only person in the hotel.

Inside Art Balcony Room
Our room was the Art Balcony (502), located on the fifth floor. Walking through the hallway, painted in an immersive deep blue, and then opening the door into a vibrant red room was a breathtaking surprise.

Following that “color shock,” the next surprise was the view. We were amazed to see the beautiful landscape of Lisbon and the São Jorge Castle right from our room. Drinking coffee on the balcony while watching the sunrise over the castle was a huge highlight every morning.
The Room
The bed is incredibly soft and comfortable (we honestly felt like we were sleeping on the clouds). There is a pillow menu in the room with different options: cotton, polyester, microfiber, and viscoelastic.
You can choose your preferred pillow style delivered straight to your room for a truly customized sleep experience. Beyond the bed, the storage situation is fantastic, the room features two separate, spacious closets with plenty of drawers.

In our specific room, there was only one chair and a Moooi Urbanhike coffee table, where one of the legs is actually a cane! Since we wanted to sit and chat, my husband brought the balcony ottoman inside so he had a place to sit other than the bed. The room has plenty of power options, including USB-A, USB-C, and European receptacles.
Pro Tip: Remember to bring a European power adapter if traveling from outside Europe.
Work Station
The Art Balcony room has no dedicated desk area, even though the room is spacious enough for one. If you need to work on a laptop, the lobby seating area is a great alternative. I noticed most tables there have European electrical ports, USB-A, and USB-C ports.

You’ll find a Delta coffee machine and a teapot. The room also has a super compact fridge stocked with complimentary refreshments, peanuts, and gummies (the first round is free, but any refill will be charged to your room).
The Bathroom
The bathroom walls match the room’s red, contrasting beautifully with the white sink, toilet, and even an electric bar towel warmer. The shower features a great combination of a rainwater head and a water hose.
Note: Don’t forget to look at the toilet; the inside color matches the room, a super unique detail.

The bathroom is spacious, spotlessly clean, and filled with Bulgari products, hand cream, shower soap, conditioner, and shampoo. They also provide a shower cap and feminine products.

The bathroom door doesn’t have a lock, but we felt the restroom was situated far enough from the bed area to provide adequate privacy.
The bathroom actually has a door to the balcony. Even though it was in the 60s°F (around 16°C) outside, the sealing was so perfect that we never felt a draft while showering.
Amenities: Art Legacy Review In Lisbon
Laundry Service
The Art Legacy Hotel offers laundry service. You’ll find two paper bags in the closet along with a price list for each piece. Based on the price list, you can expect to pay around €7 for small items like t-shirts and up to €25-€30 for delicate dresses or suits.

Note: The room does not have an iron, ironing board, or steamer. You have to call room service to have one delivered. We didn’t want to ask daily, so we borrowed the steamer for one day to handle all our clothes that had wrinkled in our luggage.
The “Hidden Gem” Guided Tour
We discovered something that wasn’t even mentioned on the official website. Every day around 11:00 AM, the hotel offers a complimentary 1-hour walking tour, and they even provide bottled water before you head out!.

Even though we had been exploring Lisbon for days and decided to do our guided tour on the penultimate day of our stay, we were so impressed by the guide’s knowledge.
Our guide took us to places we didn’t know about, like the Church of Saint Dominic and a famous Ginjinha spot, and she explained the history in great detail.
Note: Make sure to bring comfortable shoes.
Breakfast Options
The breakfast is served in the Aurea Restaurant from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM, and the best part is that it is included. What we loved most was the combination of a buffet and an à la carte menu, and the variety of options.

Whether you have dietary restrictions or not, the breakfast selection is impressive and high-quality. As plant-based travelers, we were amazed by the menu variety, and the staff was more than happy to customize dishes to be both vegan and gluten-free for us. Some of the standout vegan options include:
- Almond, soy, and oat milk.
- Cooked spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes.
- Avocado toast (gluten-free toast available).
- Beetroot crepe with avocado, tomato, and arugula, Oat and banana crepe with red berries and maple syrup, and pancake (Always check if they are vegan that day, as they occasionally use eggs).
- The buffet includes various fruit options, breads, seeds, juices, and even mimosas.

Aurea Restaurant and Bar
The Hotel hosts lunch from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and dinner from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm in the Aurea Restaurant. We did not eat in the restaurant because we had plant-based reservations already in Lisbon, which we will share in an upcoming post (subscribe below to be the first to know when it’s live).

However, we stopped by to enjoy a couple of cocktails in the bar area at night, and we noticed that the Aurea restaurant is incredibly popular—every night it was filled with both guests and visitors, so I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to eat dinner there.
Final Thoughts on Art Legacy
This stay was truly unforgettable. The staff makes you feel like family, and the attention to detail is world-class. The biggest highlight for us in this Art Legacy review in Lisbon was the attention to detail. Every day, the staff offered us tea and coffee outside of breakfast hours, and even the breakfast options were incredibly delicious.

The staff’s attention to detail was truly remarkable. During my stay, the front desk noticed I was under the weather and struggling with a sore throat; without me even asking, they delivered a homemade ginger and lemon tea directly to my room. This thoughtful, proactive service is exactly what you hope for in a luxury stay, making Art Legacy a top candidate for the best luxury hotel in Lisbon.
