Mayfair Hotel Coconut Grove Review: A Miami Hidden Gem

During a recent trip to Miami to celebrate my birthday, we decided to skip the busy energy of Brickell and start our getaway in a much more relaxed, historic neighborhood.

That’s when we found the Mayfair Hotel Coconut Grove, a stunning Two Michelin Key property, and it completely changed how we experience Miami. If you appreciate properties that prioritize architectural beauty and a curated boutique feel, this property is a must-visit.

Where is the Mayfair Hotel Coconut Grove Located?

The Mayfair Hotel Coconut Grove is located less than a 2-minute walk from the CocoWalk, a 9-minute drive from the Vizcaya Museum, and a 23-minute walk from the Coconut Grove Metro Station, making it incredibly easy to navigate the city from this location. Coconut Grove is Miami’s oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood, making its tree-lined streets a joy to stroll.

A Vintage Greenery Escape: Welcoming & Architecture

Originally opened in 1985, the hotel went through a beautiful renovation and reopened in 2022, preserving its antique architecture with the finest materials. The exterior exudes a vintage, greenery-filled style that stands out from typical Miami hotels. In total, the property features 179 guest rooms, 2 restaurants, 2 bars, and a rooftop pool.

There is a big mahogany door that automatically opens as soon as you enter the hotel via the main entrance. They don’t have a traditional desk to welcome guests; instead, you are received in a small lobby area where check-in happens at a center table, making the dynamic feel much more personal. For those driving, covered valet parking is available for $55 per day.

The Fountain Lounge Atrium

The garden and fountain lounge are the courtyard area of the hotel. This space truly transports you to a quiet greenery escape where the only disturbance is the pleasant noise of the fountain’s running water. This courtyard is packed with plants hanging from the balconies of the upper floors, giving you the feeling of being in a forest. It is definitely the spot in the hotel where you will love to be to immerse yourself in a good book.

It is an open-air hotel garden courtyard, offering a truly unique environment packed with natural textures and lush greenery to relax and unwind. There are so many tiles around the columns and walls, which remind me of the beautiful Lisbon architecture.

Glass Elevators

There are several elevators, and two of them are open concept, where you can see the fountain lounge area while riding. One interesting detail is that the elevators are digital. They are operated from a screen outside the elevator where you tap your hotel key card, choose your floor before getting inside, and the screen assigns a letter for the specific elevator.

There are no buttons once inside. This system is something we experienced in SH Hotel Colon in Valencia, and while we had no issues, just make sure you choose the correct floor before stepping in.

Booking Tip: How to Get the Best Price

Your travel dates and booking platform can get you the best offers in Miami. To maximize your budget, keep these key pricing factors in mind:

  • Peak Season (Mid-December to April): This is the most expensive time of the year to visit, driven by “snowbirds” escaping the winter cold.
  • Off-Season (August to October): This window offers the most budget-friendly hotel rates of the year.
  • Weekdays vs. Weekends: Generally, weekday rates tend to be significantly more reasonable than weekend rates.

Because we visited on a weekday in May, we were able to secure a much better rate by avoiding both the weekend crowd and the peak winter season. We booked a Studio King Bed via Expedia, and thanks to our Expedia Gold status, we received a complimentary upgrade at check-in to the higher-tier Deluxe Eden Studio.

Pro Tip: Be sure to also check the official hotel website, as they frequently run seasonal offers that are worth verifying before you book.

What are the Room Options?

While this review focuses entirely on our personal experience staying in the Deluxe Eden Studio, we want to let you know that the hotel offers several other room types to fit different space setups and budgets. Because the hotel’s architecture is so unique, the rooms are not cookie-cutter—each category offers a totally different environment and layout!

Inside the Deluxe Eden Studio

Just when we thought the impressive garden and common areas couldn’t be beat, we were completely mesmerized when we opened our room door. Our Deluxe Eden Studio was painted in a striking, rich emerald color.

While the room feels a bit dark, it features several lamps for excellent illumination, especially in the bathroom, which is farther from the balcony (the main source of natural light). The strong color concept really reminds me of the bold design at the Art Legacy Hotel in Lisbon. Despite the dark walls, the open living area feels incredibly expansive.

The room was spotless, very clean, and extremely spacious. You feel a connection with nature even inside. We had a huge balcony area on the 4th floor. Instead of a standard city view, the balcony features a lush green curtain wall that provides a ton of privacy and maintains that “forest” feeling. It’s furnished with a swing chair, a coffee table, and chairs.

Inside, the living room area had a comfortable sofa and a small ottoman. In general, the room had so many places to sit and tables to place my coffee, plus a dedicated desk with a chair if you need to catch up on some work.

The biggest surprise was the clawfoot bathtub in an open-concept area right next to the bed! This is honestly where I spent most of my time relaxing.

The water temperature was perfect, and the tub filled up impressively fast. The bathroom itself is also open-concept, featuring a walk-in shower, double sinks, gold fixtures that beautifully contrast with the emerald walls, and a separate, enclosed toilet room.

  • Bathrobes & Hairdryer
  • Complimentary toiletry essentials (Q-tips, cotton balls)
  • A kettle with complimentary instant coffee bags and tea
  • Plenty of USB and standard electrical outlets

Beyond the room, the hotel offers fantastic facilities:

  • Complimentary Bicycle Rentals: A great way to explore Coconut Grove.
  • Fitness Center: A well-equipped gym featuring cardio machines and free weights.

The Rooftop Pool & Sip Sip Rum Bar

The rooftop pool area is super calm, with beautiful umbrellas, colorful murals, and comfortable lounge chairs. Because of a high privacy wall, there isn’t a direct view of Coconut Grove, but the seclusion actually makes it feel like a private oasis.

The pool mural was beautifully designed by Angelika Wallace-Whitfield, who happens to be the same artist who created the murals for the Virgin Voyages Beach Club in Bimini.

There is a tiki-style bar on the roof called “Sip Sip Rum Bar,” which serves food from the Mayfair Grill menu. Unfortunately, it was raining in Miami during our visit, so the bar didn’t open. However, we woke up early before the rain started and enjoyed the spacious pool—the water was incredibly warm!

Resort Passes: Even if you aren’t staying overnight, the hotel offers adult-only (18+) resort passes starting at $40 to enjoy the pool and fitness center, or VIP daybeds starting at $150. You can get your resort pass here.

Plant-Based Dining at Mayfair Grill & Breakfast

Upon arrival, the hotel provides a fantastic welcome amenity, which we enjoyed down at the restaurant. You can choose from a welcome drink, beer, wine, or a special cocktail made with St. Germain, mezcal, and vodka.

Thanks to Expedia VIP access, we also received 20% off food and beverages (once per stay), so we went back to the bartender later for more of those expertly crafted cocktails!

Quick Miami Guides:

Included Breakfast

Breakfast is served on the second floor from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. It is an à la carte style, but if your breakfast is included, the complimentary menu offers one entrée, a drip coffee, and one juice. For plant-based eaters like myself, they offer a great acai bowl and oatmeal.

Mayfair Grill (Dinner & Brunch)

We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel because we had a reservation for an incredible plant-based experience at El Cielo Restaurant to celebrate my birthday. However, we did check out the Mayfair Grill menu while grabbing our welcome drinks. It is a wood-grilled kitchen concept, and they happily offer vegan dinner options like grilled oyster mushrooms, grilled broccolini, and tostones!
