Guide to the 4 Best Vegan Restaurants Portland Oregon
I recently traveled to the Pacific Northwest for a short family visit, but I decided to extend my trip by a couple of days to explore the city on my own. I honestly didn’t know what to expect food-wise, but I was genuinely impressed with the incredible variety of vegan restaurants Portland Oregon has to offer.

If you are visiting this city and wondering if there are good plant-based options available, this post is for you. I’ve put together a quick guide based on my experience, covering everything from comfort food to Japanese cuisine, including gluten-free options, which are a must for me.
Speaking of my trip, I’ve already shared my experience staying at the Woodlark Hotel, which was lovely and perfectly located, as well as what to do in 24 hours in Portland. I also highly recommend checking out the amazing experience I had at Cascade Thermal Springs. But for now, let’s talk about the best Portland vegan food.

Tips for Finding Vegan Food in Portland
Before we dive into the delicious food, I wanted to share a few quick tips on how I navigated the dining scene during my short visit.
- Getting Around: Since I was just visiting, I decided not to rent a car. Instead, I moved around the city and visited these restaurants walking or using rideshare apps like Uber or Lyft. I found that typically Lyft was the cheaper option for most of my rides.
- Reservations: I did not make reservations in advance and was able to get seated, but if you are visiting during the summer time (the busiest season from June to August), I highly recommend booking ahead. This is especially true for Obon Shokudo, as the space is limited and it gets busy very quickly.
- Typical Dining Hours: To help you plan your day, here are the general serving times I noticed:
- Breakfast: Usually starts around 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
- Lunch: Commonly served 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Dinner: Typically begins around 5:30 PM onward
Disclaimer: I am vegan and gluten-free by preference. This information reflects my personal experience and is not intended as dietary advice. I also mentioned some non-gluten-free options that my husband enjoyed, so always confirm the ingredients with the restaurant.
1. The Daily Feast: Best Vegan Breakfast in Portland
- Price: $10–20
- Open Hours: Mon-Fri 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM | Sat-Sun 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
If you are looking for a classic diner vibe, The Daily Feast is your spot. It’s not fully plant-based, but it offers some options. The place is small with limited seating, so it feels very intimate. We sat at the bar area, which offered comfortable counter space to enjoy our meal.

We ordered the tofu scramble, and the portions are big. Next time, I might share it with my husband. The mix of tofu with spinach, mushrooms, and onion was amazing.
This dish comes with hashbrowns, avocado, and toast (I chose gluten-free toast). We also drank lattes with oat milk, and again, the portion of the coffee cup was enough to share.

One thing to note: The staff is very friendly, but they are eager for you to leave quickly because the place is busy and people are waiting to be seated. We went early and were fine to eat at our own pace, but when we were about to finish eating, we definitely noticed that rush atmosphere.
2. Veggie Grill in Portland: Lunch on the Go
- Price: $10-$15
- Open Hours: Daily 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM (Closes 8:00 PM Sundays)
They have several locations, but we visited the Veggie Grill in Downtown Portland, which is located within walking distance from the Woodlark Hotel. This is like a fast-food type restaurant offering a 100% plant-based menu.

My husband tried the Santa Fe Chick’n sandwich (not gluten-free) with a side of large fries. I ordered the classic burger with a gluten-free bun. If you are looking for the best vegan burger in Portland, this is a strong contender.
Mine was made with a Beyond Burger patty, but it has a house-made sauce that had a small spice kick.

Usually, I hesitate with gluten-free buns because they can be so dry, and I often just settle for a lettuce wrap. However, I do not regret trying this one at all because it was moist and felt much more like eating real gluten bread.
Pro Tip: When you order your burger, don’t forget to ask for the honey mustard sauce (vegan honey), which is very popular and delicious.
3. Lilla: Vegan Pasta in Portland
- Price: $20–30
- Open Hours: Daily 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Menu Hours for Monday–Friday ONLY: Lunch 12:00–3:00 PM, Dinner 3:00–9:00 PM (we visited during dinner).
For an Italian dinner, we visited Lilla in Portland. We started our meal with the breaded king trumpet and oyster mushrooms (gluten-free), which came with marinara sauce and dill aioli. The dill aioli sauce on the mushrooms was my favorite.

For the main course, I ordered the spicy orechiette kale alfredo (gluten-free version), and my husband ordered the sundried tomato pesto (not gluten-free). He said the pesto was more tomato-based than traditional pesto and more like a rose sauce.
However, mine was creamier and moister, and I loved it. Since my husband tried both, he agreed that the mushroom Alfredo was the top choice because it was creamy and buttery. The Parmesan cheese was delicious.

We finished with the vanilla panna cotta for dessert. The mix of hazelnut Nutella and coconut flakes (gluten-free) was perfect. The level of sweetness was perfect for my taste buds.
4. Obon Shokudo Portland: Japanese Comfort Food
- Price: $15-$20
- Open Hours: Mon, Wed-Sun 11:30 AM – 9:00 PM (Closed Tuesdays)
Obon Shokudo in Portland is a Japanese 100% plant-based spot. The restaurant is small and cozy.

We started with the surprisingly Onigiri garlic with white miso (gluten-free). For the main course, we both ordered tempura udon (I ordered the gluten-free version), a house-made soy-mushroom broth with fried tofu, scallions, and kakiage.

Everything we ordered was delicious, but we found that the udon soup didn’t include many veggies. The portions were not that big, so we were able to eat everything without leaving anything behind.
Good to know: At this restaurant, you have to order online even though you are inside. They have a QR code that you scan with your mobile to place the order.
The staff was very friendly, explaining the ordering process, and the food came quickly. We did not have any issues tailoring it to a gluten-free style online.
